Lemonheads

the lemonheads
A new lemonheads album is released on 26th Sept. It is a sharp return to form after Evan Dando's very mediocre solo effort "baby i'm bored".

It also gets a rave review in this months UNCUT.

For now, there are a few tracks available here on the lemonheads my space page.

Yo la tengo

Yo La Tengo have released a new album called 'I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass' and it is a cracking return to form. It reminds me of summer sun.

Second track is called beanbag chair

Propoganda video

Wow, wow and triple wow. This is an interesting video featuring an older version of theatre of hate against a backdrop of recognisable history.

Lambchop

Wonderful songs, wonderful videos.

'Is A Woman' Promo (4:35)

Up with People (4:34)

To me, lambchop are a very hit and miss band. Having seen them live a few times they can make you cry with emotion whilst at other times you can't wait to get out the door they are that boring...

I saw them just after 'Nixon' had made them well known. Rather than treat the audience to 'Nixon' they played a complete set of 'Is A Woman' with a few 'Nixon' tunes thrown in which was interesting but overall disappointing. Still, 'Nixon' remains one of my all time favourite albums. I played it everyday for 18 months, only 'London Calling' has made me do that before.

I've just ordered 'damaged' so I hope it's more Nixon-esque than the more recent stuff.

To me, 'Nixon' was their pinnacle. I think Wagner is so talented he could offer so much more. Perhaps i'm being too critical.

Geoff Farina - Already Told You

Geoff Farina - Already Told You
Farina's first solo release following the split of the excellent 'karate'. The four songs on this e.p. are very reminiscent of previous band 'the secret stars' and solo albums 'usonian dream sequence' and 'reverse eclipse'.

The first track is actually a re-work of 'Femmes Damnées' which was originally a song by 'the secret stars'.

Those of you familiar with Farina's work with Karate know he can play complex jazz / punk guitar but these songs have a more basic structure. The songs are beautiful and simple, demonstrating that Farina has the talent to play many styles of music in an original style.

I couldn't find a song off the e.p. on the web so you'll have to make do with a song called 'the rights' from 'usonian dream sequence' from the southern records site here
